Southend Pier.

Here's a picture of me at my first exhibition, I was in my mid twenties at the time. The painting is a presentation of the charred twisted remains of Southend pier after a huge fire had destroyed the shore end.
Southend pier is the longest pleasure pier in the world, at one and a third miles long, and has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over since first being built over one hundred years ago. I used charcoal from the burnt wreckage of the pier, ground up to make black paint.
I went out today with Brendan (Rene's brother), to make a new film to go with some of my music for the show next week. We had a great time, and it was Brendan's first time down Southend pier, where we decided to shoot (listen to me, with the lingo), I bumped into loads of people I know, it was really weird, and although a little hazey, it was a beautiful day, one guy I knew was fishing, and gave me two mackeral for me and Rene's dinner tonight. I love fresh fish. What a day.

wow mikey i had no idea you had an exabition? of your own work. you are really truly gifted! its amzing that you can be good at things that you create (which turns out to be true magic). well done youre a true artist, any chance of exhibitions in da future? up north maybe it would look swell in the lowry(is on the salford keys features work from l.s.lowry's infamous match stick men, not like in the status quo song) i can see it now, "the amazing stylings of michael cuthbert, (mikey to his mates)"

good work love
regards to rene and everyone

I can see that you like making pictures from raw materials, which is very "special" I have no other word to describe it. You should post more artwork, I think we'd all enjoy it. And is that stuff spilling out of your cup?
Have fun!

Thanks Michael, just visited your blog, thanks again.
Hi ya Lucy, I haven't done any paintings for several years now, but one day I will again I'm sure. It was only when I was in France and drew them pictures in my songbook, that I remembered how much I still love doing it. Music has taken over my life for some time now, thanks for your constantly beautiful blog's.
Cheers Joeboy.
Hi Seychelle, do you know, I had forgotton that I was wearing that purple tie, well done, years ahead me. Thanks.
Nice one Gary, thanks mate.
Hi Kevin, about the picture, most paintings are called 'representations' because they represent the certain thing they have copied the image of. My painting was made from the actual object within the picture, thus making it a 'presentation'.
And the stuff tipping out of the cup is cheap champagne, it was the opening night of the exhibition, I had a huge cigar and didn't take off the shades all night. A truly brilliant night. Thanks mate.
Hey claire, thanks alot, the film was fun, I'm glad you like the painting. It's one of my favorites.

Your artwork is fantastic Mikey!

Have you ever considered doing a painting or drawing for each of your songs on a particular album?

Even if they can't be printed or reproduced well in a CD package, you could at least have a CD release party at an art gallery and show them there or a short DVD video that shows them off could be included with the CD.

Peter Gabriel had artwork commisioned for all of the songs on one of his albums and I thought it was such a great idea.

Looking forward to the video for "Listen to Me"

Mikey! In the photo you look a bit like John Lennon crossed with one of the "Goodfellas" gangster guys. Funny look there, but the artwork is amazing.

I love fresh fish too. Mmmm!

Feeling all better now and anticipating the arrival of my new baby grand in the morning. I can hardly stand the anticipation. Happy girl.

I am looking forward to pointing more people in the direction of your music.

Oh! I have been telling the "stick" joke. I am famous for not being able to properly tell a whole joke. So the stick joke is perfect for me because there's no way to get it wrong! However, it's really not that funny, so my friends just go, "Ohhhhhh," like they can't believe I told that.

Love ya!

Do you have any plans for the USA at all. I remember Rene wanted to go to Alaska. If you ever have the chance....DO IT....! If I ever go to England, which will be with in the year. Would London be far from you? I just remember you said your guitar went to Texas but you never went. I hope you do come out and make it close to South West Florida. The Gulf side is so beautiful. Its like carabean waters. michael ;)

Just surfing around a bit, and read that you replied to Gary and listened to his song. You are a kind soul. Goodness and good fortune will come your way, and I suspect you will do your best to give someone else a "chance"(one day when you are rich and famous, and still with Rene) We all need just a little hope and inspiration. A smile, a nod that someone cares!
I look forward to "The Attic" next week!

You look like a punk rocker who put on a suit for the day. It's not right man! Very funny. The juxteposition of the twisted metal and you in the 'loud' suit made a great pic. Hope ya don't mind, I just think it's funny. It's a cool piece of art, I like it all by itself, but the red shirt and that grin just kind of draw yer eye.

Thanks Ginab, what can I say? I do my best. You are far too kind though.
Hi Molly, thanks very much, do you think I should cut my hair then?
No current works in public exhibition, except maybe this blog. Have a good weekend.
Hi Brita Ruth, glad you like the painting. I've always been a beginner at all things, cheers.
Hi Michael, where not that far from London. Your side of the pond sounds amazing and I can't wait to get over there. Thanks mate.
Cheers Gary, I have done on your blog mate, thanks again.
Your very kind anon, we'll see what occurs, I am very happy now. No need to be shy.
Hey Ticharu, spot on mate, it was the opening night, big fat cigar, I had a great time being the center of attention, the party continued back at my flat, don't remember that much of it, happy days. The picture makes me laugh too, thanks mate.
