The Gig.

The gig last week went really well, many thanks to all who attended and all who wished me well. I played four songs, starting with Plasticine, then Tourist, Misery and then Greenhouse, my new one. They all went down really well, and Rene said that she really enjoyed Greenhouse, it's hard playing new stuff, although I really enjoyed performing it. Friends and family attended, but me and Rene left shortly after my slot. There were three other acts performing, which I heard briefly during the sound check, and all sounded brilliant, but it was already late and we were both tired. Many thanks to Mark T, who took this picture.
Thankyou to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, I am 35. I spent my birthday on Southend pier fishing, Rene came too, and we had a lovely packed lunch of whole lobsters and potato salad, washed down with a flask of tea, it was the best, I caught a few fish as well. I got loads of lovely presents and bought myself a guitar, it's a sixties Yamaha G-180 A, if that mean's anything to anyone, I'd love to get some feedback from the great blogger knowledge out there. It has a pick up already fitted, and sounds lovely, I decided to use it for the gig, because it's so much lighter than my JS 200, and the perfect sound for Greenhouse.
I am realing the new Harry Potter book at the moment, and think it's great, but then I'm a fan, apart from that, I am still doing the renovation work on the flat which is coming along nicely, visiting my lovely nephew Jed, who is amazing, and genarally being busy. Well, it doesn't seem right to end without a , Give me a Shout, so...

Congratulations on your successful gig Mikey! And a very Happy Birthday to you!

Playing four songs at a gig is just as difficult as playing 20 - you have to set up the same amount of stuff and you get just as nervous for the show. Good on you for playing your new song Greenhouse, I love it when musicians do that at a gig, it makes me feel like I'm really in on the beginning of something. Keep playing and writing as much as you can.

Cheers,

Tom

Happy be-lated b-day! 35 is YOUNG. I don't think you mind what age you become, with the new guitar, Rene, Jed, everyone around...lobster and tea!

Sounds like a nice round of tunes you played in Clapham. Your song titles remind me of novels by Graham Greene. Yep!

Oh, 35 years young.....congratulations!
I am glad to hear that the gig went well, and that you had all that lovely support.
What a wonderful birthday you had.....yum, that lobster, potato salad and tea sounds good to me!
Of course, this blogger has not a technical clue about guitars; I know that I love the way they weep, though...lol
So, here is your shout....Keep being as happy as you can, enjoy the many moments that come your way!

Hey Mikey, glad to hear your gig went well. I wish I could've gone! But I'm sure you had loads of fun. Your guitar sounds like a beauty, I'll bet it's got a lovely clean sound and all, judging by the description. Anyway, take care and keep writing. =D

SHOUTIN' OUT TO MIKEY!

Heya! ;o)
Your birthday celebration sounded like my cup of tea. The image you painted was just lovely. Sorry that I can't contribute to feedback on your Yamaha, but congratulations on giving yourself such a gift, and I'm pretty sure you are the guitar's muse. I'm a trumpet & piano gal from years past. But, I adore a nice acoustic piece. Good luck with the renovations. I'll clean up, paint, and decorate ... but, heavy renovations are out of my league for certain! Jed. That is an awesome name. Aren't children so wonderful?? I just love 'em. I know everyone doesn't feel that way, but they're my favorite kind of people.

Started with one and ending with one:

YO! MIKEY! Keep smiling. :oD

Hey Mikey. So you like the Yamaha. They make some great guitars. My Classical is a Yamaha. Big difference from your Gibby. Might get over your way at the end of 2007. Hope to see you.

Hello Mikey,

I know I'm late with writing a comment.
Sorry.
Here it's raining and I think the summer is gone.
Great to hear the gig was good. It's so bad I'm so far away, but I hope to hear your radioshow next month. Every evening I read the Harry Potter in english too. It's the best HP (my opinion). In Germany the book will be out first in October.
Now here my shout to you and a belatedly bithday wish. All the best from me to you.
Take care.
Love and peace

Hi Mikey!

So glad your gig went well and that you had a happy birthday. 35, huh? When will you and Rene have some kids? :-) Do you enjoy being in your 30s? I wonder how you feel about it. Here in the States, there is a vile new show on VH1 called "I Hate My 30s." I can't relate with that. I guess we are supposed to be having a bad time just because we're in this decade of life? Whatever. What's your take?

Signing off with a shout. Shout shout shout! Enjoy your book. Nice seeing your new blogs, as always.

Much Love
Natalie

Hiya Mikey,

Just wandered in from Gary's blog where you left him a message about Crashing the Attic's Plasticine. I think he & Mark T did a fabulous job on it myself. Excellent song. Wish I could have seen your gig....

PS My first guitar was a nylon string classical G-55 A Yamaha. I never play it anymore (switched to an electric/acoustic Takamine for the pickup years ago) but it looks alot like yours.

Happy belated b'day, Mikey! I will never forget how friendly and gracious you were when I approached you at the Who gig in Palm Springs last fall. To me, you are a vital part of the Who renaissance in recent years, and for that I will always be grateful. Wishing you happiness and continued success,

Hi Mikey dear,
A belated Happy Birthday to You, and birthday hug, and congratulations on the gig. I love the sound of your birthday meal with Rene.

I'm turning 50 this week! It seems so...ridiculous...because "50" sounds so momentous, and in fact I feel as sprightly and happy as if I were your age or younger. So I'm going to not focus on the numbe,r and instead I suppose I will just have to eat lobster, my favorite too!

Love and hugs,
Brina

Hello Mikey!
Belated congrats on your gig.
I am so glad to hear that you are out there performing again. Good on ya.

I am in Taipei now. I had a bit of a breakdown in Mass. once Sujoy and Anjoli left(they had to head back about 3 weeks before I was ok to travel). It's ok - what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. I am feeling very positive - eating a "cave man diet"(for the most part!) and making my own organic juices and doing other detoxing stuff. I feel fantastic - my metal head bothers me sometimes though(I have a titanium mesh plate in my head!) but not that often.
I am glad you treated yourself to a new guitar. Like Lace MY first guitar was a Yamaha - it looked like yours but probably not as nice.
I have a gorgeous Martin sitting in its case...crying to be played! Poor baby. I better tend to her soon. I am so down on my playing, but if I don't practice, how can I ever improve?
:)

I am glad you are enjoying your nephew. Kids are the best. I miss teaching them so much...

I hope you are well.
Love to you and yours,
Suexxx
