HELP ME BLOGGERS!

I'm trying to find out how to post MP3's onto my site, Rene and I have looked through the blogger help, but no luck as yet. Can anyone blog back with 'how to' steps for me, as simple as possible please?

It would be great to get some of my tracks posted up for you all. Thanks again

Mikey, Rachel has posted some MP3 files using http://www.yousendit.com/.

I want to put up an MP3 for a blog entry I just wrote in memory of my friend Rick, who passed away a few days ago. He played in my husband Tom's band, and I would love to put some of his music up. When I get it figured out, I'll let you know.

OK Mikey, I just put Ricks song up at http://carriepr.blogspot.com/. Check it out!

It was pretty easy. Here is what you need to do:

Go to http://www.yousendit.com/.
Type in your own email under Recipients Email Address, and enter the path to your MP3 file.
Press Send It. You will receive an URL of the page that contains the download. You can then add the link in your blog.

I should add that the downloads from yousendit are only good for 7 days, and a limited number of downloads. You will need a permanent server if you want them to stay up forever.

Hi Mikey, Really dig your Blog! Although I can't shed any new light on how to post MP3's I'm going to check back here & see if I can learn to do so myself.

This a great forum to share original music & the possibilities are exciting! Please check out my blog if you find time. Thanks.

Mikey,
If you go to www.independentartistscompany.com you can follow the directions and put up a personal page with your tunes for all the world to hear. IAC gets several million hits a month. I've been trying to contact Simon and Rachel to get them to post a tune or two. It would be great publicity for all of you! Give it a look. You'll love it and it's easy to do!

Mike,
Thanks for asking the question because I just started a blog myself and was going to post the same question. Since you get more traffic than I do I figured I could find the answers here.
By the way, your music on Who TV is awesome. Keep on writing.

Hi Mikey - looks like tons of suggestions on this while I was out to lunch. In case none of these answer your question.

The essential ingredient is having space on a server to house your MP3 files. I'm using 10mb of personal space that my internet provider gives me. All I do is create a folder on this space called "Content", I connect to the server using a FTP (file tranfer protocol) program

Go to www.download.com and type SmartFTP in the search box, this is a free one. Not the easiest to use. I prefer CuteFTP (www.globalscape.com)

Once you are connected, use the FTP program to upload your MP3 files to the space you created on the server.

My space is:

http://mysite.verizon.net/garystockton/index.htm

Once your files are uploaded, it is only a matter of creating a URL (uniform resource locator) - don't you just love acronyms, the URL is the address of the specific file.

The one I have on my website is located at:

http://mysite.verizon.net/garystockton/Content/ComeIntoMyWorld.mp3

Now, getting these onto your blog will involve some minor editing of your blogger template. You will be looking for the Links part of your template, I see you have already edited these, I'd recommend putting in a line or divider and then have a link for each song, or, if you are going to have your own web site, just put a link that points to a page on your site that has a list of your MP3's. I'll assume that editing your eel pie page is the thing you are trying to avoid, and most practical may be having a simple personal page that you maintain yourself. Keep in mind, you'll need to do a little design work with MS Frontpage or Dreamweaver.

I design web sites for a living and would be happy to put something together for you. Let me know what you have in mind.

I do hope I was able to explain this without sounding complicated or overly simplified.

Forgot to mention, the other less involved approach is to create a post - New Songs - for example, then highlight the name of your new song and use the "Insert Link" icon in blogger to paste the address to the MP3 file. As Sandman said, there are services out there for independent artists that offer web space and marketing and you'd need to evaluate that and how it aligns with your publishing deal with eel pie.

I suspect that you are looking to put something up fairly simple so you can give your fans a location to access demos and previews as Rachel is doing.

Hope this is helpful.

Love the picture of camping with the guitar.. Nothing like sitting around the camp fire with the guitar.

Hi Mikey-
Nice pic!
It looks like you got the help you needed. I am a technophobe (but I'm getting better w/ this blog!)- otherwise I'd help ya.
Can't wait to download your songs on my mp3 player (ok, can't wait for my HUSBAND to download them!).
He's the geek in the family!
He bought me a very nice mp3 player, but I've downloaded about 60 iTunes,so I wasn't too happy at first.. he is anti-Apple...now I can see why - I don't think non-iTunes mp3s are compatible w/an iPod.
Sometimes it's good to let him win!
Are you and Rachel doing a show this week? I take it you're not because of the upcoming gig...
See ya!

You may need this to be a little more detailed and perhaps not...here is my take on helping you:

1. Start a blog so get the body ready to type into

2. Go to yousendit.com and send and email with the file to YOUR email address.

3. Go into YOUR email address to get the URL address they send you from yousendit.com

4. Type into the body of your blog the name of the song

5. Highlight with your mouse or with your finger like I do on my laptop the name of the song you just typed

6. Keeping it highlighted go and hit the little button right above on the menu that read "Link" when you roll over it

7. select "HTTP:" and then on the line below the file type enter the url address from your email.

8. hit enter and the publish your blog...and VOILA! You did it!

Hope that helps. I have the dance moves for you...will post later tonight my time (morning for you) with them on my blog!

Take care this week! I need retail therapy today so I am outta here!

Thanks Molly - I wondered how the YouSendIt thingamajobber worked. Do you know how long these links are good for? I'm assuming this is the option if you want something free that does not need to reside on your own web site.

Mikey,
Ask Matt (I believe he runs Pete's web site) if there are options for allowing you to utilize web server space for this, and if he can setup an editable web page where you can add/remove your MP3's. If he is using Macromedia software ( do), they have something called Contribute, which essentially allows users to login to a page and make modifications, without editing essential parts of the page. In this scenario, you would upload your MP3 to Eel Pie, log onto your MP3 page and put the link to the file so we can see it and download it. Optionally, you could also create a page for song lyrics and allow us to see that also. I think the essence of what you are looking to do is make your songs available without requiring others to assist.

The YouSendIt approach will work, however, these links disable after a period of time, and this could become a bit of a challenge.

If you are subscribing to a commercial internet access like btconnect, they'll include 20MB of web space, this is the other option I described previously, if you plan on having your own page, look into Microsoft Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver. These two programs allow you to design, edit and maintain the content on your web site and also upload/download files. Frontpage is less complicated and includes several template styles. Once you have designed your page, upload it to your personal web space and it will be on the Internet. Then, add a link to this page from your blog, and include a link to your blog from your personal page.

My offer stands to help out if you need it ok. I'm pretty good with Dreamweaver and it would be an honor to show you my stuff in that regard.

Saturday... ahhh music room time... What's that I hear?? oh no, Stephani is powering up the belt sander again.. She is trying to re-paint the siding of the back side of the house... Looks like no music room for me today.. :-(

Mikey! I just followed some of the instructions here and attempted to put up an MP3 at my blog. I hope it worked. Now I'm waiting to find out!

Thanks for asking the question. You have loyal bloggers (almost typed boggers, now that would be a weird group!) who are always willing to jump in and help out.

Love the photo below with the "spanish guitar". You look very rugged and the photo reminds me of the '60s.

Dear Mike

Just "hello".
I am sorry I can't help you with downloading MP3's. I am quite computer illiterate, which doesn't matter much because my computer is old & slow & doesn't do much itself.
I saw you briefly on "In The Attic", during the second broadcast. I was at work, so I was not able to watch very much.
I am familiar with you through Pete Townshend's website & Rachel's blog. I do have to admit that I have not heard any of your music yet, but I promise that I will order your CD within the next couple of days!
My local music store is very accomodating. It seems that most folks are busy downloading music, where I make it a point to buy the artist's CD. Therefore, I am one of my store's best customers.
As I have indicated on my own blog, any artist that catches Pete Townshend's eye must be quite worth their salt.
I do love your pig's head! I do some sketching of my own, but my time is very limited. Maybe someday I'll be able to dedicate more of myself to my art. I also love to write.
Keep on with your own art.

Dale

Hi Mikey, Go to Create post, edit html/hyperlink and add the http of your song....Here is what the string should look like to add mp3's. Title of your songText.........Make sure your mp3 file is in the realaudio file on your server. Example from my new Musicians blog: http://sacho.com/blogger.html
Trouble No More - Muddy Waters and Mick Jagger. I hope this helps and please stop by my blog sometime. Please let me know if you got it or if I can help any farther.

We usually go to Cornwall in the late spring, and I've camped in Wales a few times, which I loved. When I was a teenager, I would go to a local wood, called Cotton wood, which I wrote a song about called 'Bluebell wood'. Where do you go camping?

Mikey, The yousendit.com method worked for me, but apparently it's only up for a certain number of downloads or days? In that case, my son the teenage computer wizard says there is another alternative he can show me.

Anyway, I managed to get two of my piano tracks up on my blog today, so that's progress!

I love the woods. And I picked up some (already fallen) birch bark in the woods the other day. Thought of you!
