Self-portait...

Here's a self-portait I painted when I was about 20, its quite stylised, but I'm very happy with the skin tones. I still have this painting.

Yesterday, Rene took another day off work under my orders, she's was a lot better, but still wasn't 100%, and we spent the day together relaxing.

Rene's gone to work today, so I'll get back to work as well, I've found a bit that helps me with my new song that I've been working on for ages. Just the tiniest thing can make the change, we'll see where it goes from here.

Got a phone call from an old friend this morning called Lee, he's a singer/songwriter that I've worked with and been friends with for many years, he was also a visual artist that showed in one of my exhibitions .

I thought that I'd annoyed him or something because I hadn't heard from him in ages, but apparently he'd been away travelling to Japan and Australia. How cool, I bet he's got loads of great stories and songs. He's going to pop over on Friday, can't wait to see him. It was Lee actually that got me fishing again, a good few years ago.

So the show's on Thursday this week, hope you all can come, GMAS.

Wow Mikey, I think that's an awesome portrait. You could double up as an artist also. What a renaissance man you are.

Did you ever have any luck on getting more MP3's on to a web site so we can download?

I uploaded 3 songs to my Boy Who Heard Power Chords blog this weekend, including the song I wrote Stephani for our anniversary. I'm still not happy with them though, somehow I need to put more into them, either more background voice or more melody..

Hope to tune in on Thursday.

I look forward to the day, I can sit and look at your work in a gallery setting. I like more than a quick glance at work that I enjoy. You are amazing. Glad to hear Rene is doing better.

Nice painting, I like the textures especially on the face.
Does it have a title beside self-portrait?

Thanks Jill, our love to you and Mark.
Hi Gary, I trained as a painter, but thanks mate. About the Mp3's, I'm going to have to master stuff first, then wait to Mat is back. I'm sure it will happen soon. I'll check you stuff out soon mate, but I have found with my own music, that sometimes things should be left, and time will inform, if you get what I mean mate.
Cheers Joeboy, that sounds great, maybe one day mate.
Thanks Andy, I don't believe I ever did give it a title, not that I remember anyway.
Hi Cara, the expression is due to the fact that I was painting on my knee's learning forward as the canvas was flat on the floor, so I'm looking up at myself in the mirror, concentrating. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Lucy, glad you like it, I haven't really thought about it, but I'm sure it will happen some day, but much of the art I created has been lost or sold, I only have a few peices left. So maybe I would have to paint again first.
If your still coughing then you must eat a spoonful of honey every now and then, 'manuka' is good. Just any honey is good. Hope you feel better soon. Take care blog buddy,

Your portraits become more revealing each time. What are those figures off to the left? You appear to be either forlorn or acerbic. I can't tell which. Or maybe just you. I am really enjoying your work. Great overall tones as you said. Eventually I'm going to post some of my early self-portraits as I love your critiques. Hope you and Rene feel better and you're back in fine form in the attic. Thanks for the tip on the manuka honey... I'm going to buy some. Seychelle

I like that portrait. It "talks" a lot!

Yes Honey is really good. I am a rare one who can eat loads of it plain in my family!

Thanks Lucy, glad you're feeling better, I have honey instead of sugar for everything, thanks for your sympathy blog buddy.
Hi Lzygrl, I still haven't finished the new song, so I won't be playing it yet, sorry. But thankyou for your well wishing, Rene's much better and off to work again, and I am so full of honey, I am unstopable. Thanks though.
Hi Seychelle, this painting was created very quickly, I believe I was running out of blue paint, hence the figures off to the side, they did mean something I'm sure, but I really don't remember, sorry. As for which of forlorn or acerbic, I was probably both, I was very frustrated with life at that point. Can't wait to see your early self portraits, and I will voice my humble opinion for you. Glad you've got the honey bug, if there's no manuka, get organic, and non heat treated, but any honey is better than no honey in my opinion. Thanks Seychelle.
Hi Molly, what does it say to you?

Hey Mikey,

I'm kind of lost in this painting. In a good way...the eyes...and colors. This is maybe my favorite of yours so far.

Enjoying your Indonesia blog as well.

Are you hale and hearty now? And Rene feeling much better?

I will have to watch you on the loop after tomorrow's show, can't catch you live, which is a first. I've been there live every week so far!

Big hugs, love, Brina

Hi Mikey,

Sure hope Rene gets feeling better soon. All my best.

Excellent painting my friend.

Way cool about Lee. Probably have more stories than you can listen to and hundreds of songs.

I'll be in Ballerina Gurl's chat during the show. Thank you for "In the Attic". It is a tremendous show!

I'm headed out for a motorcycle ride on a friend's bike. 1100cc Honda. He lends it to me once in awhile. Gonna' go catch the wind.

Peace, love and light to you and yours.

Thanks Brina, I'm glad I posted it now, about the show, it's on Thursday this week, and later than usual, showing at 7-9pm London time, hope this means you can watch it live, and continue your unbroken record. Hugs.
Hi Kidric, cool mate, hope you enjoy the ride, I really looking forward to hearing all Lee's stories on friday, thanks mate, hope you can see the show on thursday. Peace and love brother.

Well It tells me personally the subject is constrained and trapped. Perhaps to get out of the canvas and take flight. Perhaps it is that you were leaning over and it strained your face a little. I don't see happiness, but not sadness either.

Sorry too many Art classes where we would have to critique the paintings here! Lost my touch a long time ago! I do like it. What did you use to paint it?

I put up another pic of me dancing and didn't hear if you saw it or not. I dug it up since there was a request. Yours being one of them.

That's pretty cool painting, Mikey. No doubt about your talent. The skin tone is pretty amazing.

I don't think I'm gonna make it to this week's show, Mikey. But I'm sure I'm gonna see the replays.

Please say thank you to Rachel, Pete, and everybody else for putting sooo much effort on the show. I've really learnt a lot from it. And hey, it is Idul Fitri. I think you should mention it in the show..let us all forgive each other =)

Terima kasih, Mikey.

Hi Mikey, don't take any notice of the comment made by that pratt Pierre. You were excellent on the night, you hit all the right notes and sounded great. I'm angry that he made that off the cuff type comment. Have fun on ITA. I'll be watching as I'm going to leave work early. Keep you pecker up. Mark

I don't swear (I really don't) but I say fuck poxy Pierre (stupid name) he's pobably only called Peter anyway, and obviously has a very tiny mind.

Hey, thanks for the comment! Nothing was vandaized, thank God. Some wiggers (white guys who act black) slowed down right next to my house with their shitty music blasting, but I stood up and showed them the baseball bat I had in my hand and they drove away. I haven't been on the computer lately, I have been studying for a math test and doing some more spanish stuff. I saw that you were in the paper, congrats! I love that painting the use of the blues, yellows and reds make it unique. Give me a shout!

Hi Mikey dear, Just read the review and as I wrote to Rene, it's typical reviewer style to dismiss or even omit the "opening act," however in this case I believe he missed the mark on both you and Simon.

I don't know if this reviewer is a musician, but I'm a musician, and I know when someone is a good singer/songwriter. You and Simon are both very talented and expressive in your songs, and that's that. You are.

And you reach people with your songs. That's the best thing!

Love you!

Brina

Hi Mikey,
as I mentioned to Rene, I came to your blog several times today after reading the review from the Independent on Rachel's blog. It's indeed a shame that this critic was so dismisive of your talents. I'd love to see what would have happened if you or Simon had handed him your guitar and said go ahead.. I found the comment very calous and heartless. This is somebody's life and passion we're talking about here, and I as a fellow musician felt sick and very sad for you, knowing how excited you were about that night.

Please keep a copy of the review as a motivation so you can prove him wrong some day.

Keep the faith.

Gary

Mikey-I am honored and will post my critique if you like. I am very shakey at it, but it is in my pores as we all are artists in this family, so perhaps I can be of some resource. I was taken back to a time when I was dismissed in some reviews I had when dancing a major part and I think with the wonderful fan base you have built here you are on top and have a promising career. Just keep the self love going and remember this is what you love and live for now.

It's going to snow here tonight. How exciting! Glad I bought a 4 wheel drive!

have fun on the broadcast tomorrow. I will host a chat since I have a lot of work on the internet tomorrow. Pop in if you can :) -Molly

Hated the little blip about you in the Independent. The important thing is that your fans - us - think you are awesome and on the ball. The problem with reviews of shows with multiple acts is that it is the later acts that stay fresher in your mind. No matter how good the earlier acts are, they will be overshadowed by the fresher memories.

Hey Brina, I'm glad I reached you, I love your blog, and your attitude, I could learn a lot from you Brina, thanks for caring.
Hi Gary, maybe he wasn't wrong, I have a long way to go yet, at least I hope I've a long way to go, and I don't think I would like it too easy, thankyou for comming to my aid though mate.
Hi Molly, hope you enjoy the snow, thanks for the invite, maybe another time. Cheers Molly.
