THE GIG WENT WELL !

Sorry for the slack blogging here, but better late than never. Thankyou very much for all great good luck message's here, I felt all of your power and performed well, I had a great time. It was excellent to see all blogger's that turned up, Mark and Jill, Marietta and her Mum, Charlotte and Cat, Ben and Tom, thankyou very much, I really appreciated the great support you gave me, and for the great review's you've written on your blog's, thankyou again.
I wasn't as nervous as last time I supported the Casbah Club, although I didn't get the chance to reherse very much. I remember Rene saying,'you're playing that gig on Sunday', which I think was on thursday evening, but as I ran through some song's the next day, and it became apparent to me that I remembered all of them no problem, which is probably down to playing them fairly regularly on IN THE ATTIC. So feeling altogether more confident, I think I performed well, trouble occured when I tried to retune my guitar from conventional to DADGAD without the use of a tuner, I thought I'd learnt my lesson from last year, but my tuner broke only recently, and I thought that I could do it, I need to gig more I reckon.
The show was going well, people singing along in place's and dancing down the front, but I was aware of a small group of people talking, which was really off putting, I found myself getting angry and loosing the feel of the song, but as I played my final song, 'Invisible', a song that hasn't been played on IN THE ATTIC, they all shut up and listened, later the very same people appologized to me, which I thought was really nice. Some people asked if I was selling any CD's, I can't wait til I have something that people can buy. I had a great time watching the brilliant Cashah Club after my set, and got a picture with the band, they are all lovely fella's and I can't wait to work with them again.
Feel's a bit weird not doing IN THE ATTIC tonight, but the weather's lovely here at the moment, the building work still continues, more noise than ever, but I think I'm nearly imune now, hope everyone's doing well, take care all and GMaS.

Allen says:

About the tuning to and from DADGAD..."That could be tricky without a tuner".

I, Dan, say: Why didn't anybody else have one?

Ah well, you are home from the show and all is well now.

Wish we were there to see The Casbah Club. Allen wants to know of any future plans to visit California. He is sitting right next the computer...while on another computer. You may recall that he is the one with our "studio" ..."Sunrise Studios" in the garage.

Enjoy,

Hey Mikey

Nice one - I couldn't get there to see you and Casbah perform but it sounds like a really great evening. Yes! You should do more gigs - get out there and show everyone what you can do. It's funny, I used to read about musicians who said that you learn so much by performing live and it's all true - there's just so much going on. Love your pic of you standing between Bruce and Mark (Bruce was an adolescent hero of mine - I wanted to be in The Jam see!!). Looking foward to getting hold of you CD when it's released. Give me a shout if you can on the next ITA (bit confused when that is though!?!?!)
Take care
SteveH

p.s. Did you have a chance to see the GP on Sunday? How great is it to see Ferrari back on top!!!

Mikey,

I am thrilled that the show went so well. I read Marietta's blog and got all the details with the pictures. Will you be playing "Invisible" on ITA? I heard it is a brilliant song.

And yes, I can't wait either for you to come out with your own CD. I will most definately get one.

Have a great rest of the week. Missed ITA not being on today. It doesn't seem like a Wednesday without it.

Hi Mikey, Congrats on what sounds like an awesome show!

My cousin Laurie (funniest cousin in the world) is here with me and we did a goofy blog today. I would love it if you peeked at it. (And lest people think I'm being horribly irreverent, my mom would be laughing harder than any of us at this one!)

Hugs,

I wrote a really lovely comment, but I couldn't get on. So, I'll try again. It is easy to come up with lovely comment for you, as you are, indeed, that.
Thanks for your honesty in your posts. I am glad that those silly people saw the light, and made their apologies. When you are playing here, in the USA, there will be lots of us singing along and rockin' out with you!!! I just hope it is true, that you, will be gigging here. (praying)
And that CD will come in very handy, as it is hard to sit at the computer all day, in order to listen to Mikey's music!!!

Much happiness to you!
xx

Hi mikey, I need to get over to marietta's and everyone elses blogs and check out reviews - wish I could've been there. Wish I could be there for all of these shows!Rachels, yours, Simon's.
I've been to check outlive music a lot over my lifetime, including recently,in Southern Cal and I don't recall people doing that. Weird. Not in clubs like this where it can be disruptive.
And in fact, I've been to all the so-called "hip" places here in SD and everyone was really into the music, even though these were predominantly local and/or not big name acts.. Hmm. Interesting.
Must've just been these people, possibly an isolated incident and the fact that they apologized is good.
Or else English audiences are different from American ones. I've heard that they are more reserved, but I don't know if this is true. But
I am glad you are going to play more live shows. Definitely. You are a talent! :)
BTW, I miss the Attic, too.I
really could've used it today. :(

Morning Mikey,

Wanted to tell you that I'm really looking forward to hearing you play live someday.

I remember when you first came on ITA, you mentioned listening to a lot of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young at the time, almost like a discovery of sorts--their music is so fresh--anyway, they are doing a tour this summer and I splurged for a very good seat right up front (8th row) for myself. My son and a friend are going with me but the teenagers are sitting further back (my seat is horribly expensive!).

I've met David Crosby and have seen him play solo and with his other band CPR, and I have been at a small, intimate show where Graham Nash played and sang pretty much to me and A.J. on "Teach Your Children." I've seen concerts by CSN, and CSNY, but each time is different, and this summer they've got Neil's powerful new set of songs as well as new Stills material, so it should be great.

I bet you'd love it too! I'll be sure to blog it when the time comes 'round.

Love,
Brina

Wish I was there Mikey. You have got to get live recordings of your gigs so that people can listen online.

Also the short attention span people at the gig, just keep your attention focused on the people who ARE listening and enjoying. Once they stop bullshitting, then go back.

Nice one Mikey. I was recently forced to buy a BOSS TU-12 autochromatic tuner, holy smoke, what a great tuner it is. I had to buy it because the other one I had would not handle tuning up a Mandolin, I didn't know what I was missing. Yes, I blow all of my money on gear, I just bought another microphone because the one I have doesn't do accoustic guitar that well. gear gear gear.. what else would we spend our doe on ay?

Had a great night in the music room last night. Got vocal done on Bermondsey, and there is a mandolin solo. Dad just told me he is sending me some antique harmonica's and if they are in the right key, I'm going to try and work a bit of harmonica onto the song, although, he is a flute player and a penny whistle would have sounded really cool. Can't wait to put this song onto IAC so you can hear it, it is sounding like nothing I have ever written.

So, are you going to be playing clubs when you are on tour with Rachel and Pete? It would be cool to come see you if you were playing in Orange County. Lots of great places around here, would be surreal to have a gig near the beach with you guys.

Really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Great to hear the gig went well. Wish I was there. I know what you mean with the stage fright. The first solo I had at a jazz concert, I almost peed my pants. I can't wait for the CD.

Why not get Bill to book you and Rachel on some college gigs. You and Rachel would be a hit playing the American colleges.

Hi Mikey-
How are you?
I'm going through ITA withdrawal.
Help!
So glad your gig went well.
(I thought I posted a comment already, but apparently I didn't).
You know, it's sad to say but people talking/goofing around during performers' sets (especially opening acts) is all too common.
Remember Pete's stories about the Marshall amps? (stacked, I think? I'm not a gear expert!).
It really really upsets me. I mean, have courtesy and respect...jeepers.
I hope you play lots more gigs Mikey! It's crucial for a musician - especially now since radio is pretty lame.
Ok, I'm sure you already know that!! Miss know it all Sue, c'est moi!
Hope you are well.
Take care,
Sue D.

Hi Mikey!

Congrats on the successful gig! There's never a need to be nervous--people love to hear music that's raw and unplugged with lots of emotion...your songs never fail to deliver. Can I say for the record that you are truly hot--haha--yeah, rene is also quite stunning! Anyway, your appeal comes not only from your obvious talents but also from your lovely persona. You're one of the most gracious performers I've encountered...alas, I know that will change one day when you become mr. big stuff and demand all the rock star stuff on your rider--gourmet treats and hand-rolled cuban cigars. heehee. just kidding. love ya--you're a ★

Congratulations Mikey!

It's so great to hear that people are singing along and doing some dancing to your songs. You must feel much more comfortable on stage after all of the playing you've done on In The Attic.

I can't wait to hear your new song Invisible. If you closed the show with it, it must be a really good song. I've loved all of the new songs that you've played on In The Attic.

Cheers,

Tom
