Mikey in the USA

I've been in the USA for nearly 2 weeks now, and this is my first blog away from home. I'm sitting in a hotel room in Chicago on the eve of the 'ITA' House of Blues gig.
I received a phonecall from Rachel from America asking me to come out after I thought it was all cancelled, and to my surprise flew out the very next day. I flew to JFK New York and Rene followed 3 days later. This is my first time in the US and I love it, it has always been a dream of mine to visit, and once again I feel very lucky.
The first ITA show in the US was filmed in Pete's dressing room at Madison Square Gardens, during the Who gig. It was great to meet Sarah and Charlotte backstage, as well as to meet David Bowie, although it was a shame he didn't appear on the show. It was great to be back with the team, but felt like I'd never been away. The show was excellent.
It was also great to meet the Third of
Never guys, and help with their video shoot, they are real sweethearts.
We then took a bus ride to Baltimore and performed an ITA at the V festival, meeting The Flaming Lips and The Raconteurs, who were both wonderful. Rene and I dressed up in Santas outfits and danced on stage with the Lips, it was great.
We got back on the bus and drove to Chicago. Rene and I got a bit lost when we went out for a walk and I developed some huge blisters, needless to say we found our way back. We went to see Rachel perform at Barnes & Noble, and met bblayla, Roland & Lisa, Jeff and other bloggers, Rachel performed beautifully although she was quite ill, we then went on to watch the Who perform in a huge arena, it was fantastic.
Tomorrow is the House of Blues gig and I am very excited.
Thanks for all the great shouts, and thank you to all the great people I have met here, hope everyone is good, and hope to meet many more bloggers and fans tomorrow at the House of Blues.
Back home on Saturday where I will post pictures and fill in the blanks.
Take care all, this is Mikey in the USA signing off.
Nearly forgot in all the excitement, GMaS, and if you haven't already, go and buy my CD at eelpie.com.

Welcome to the U.S. chum! I hope it goes well for you tomorrow night. A word of warning for that hotel room: don't turn on the T.V. - there is a bunch of crap on that thing. T.V.'s have been known to have been hurled from hotel room windows and into swimming pools, of all places. We'll forgive you if that happens, and blame it all on re-runs of Dallas.

Take care - Paul.

Hi Mikey,
great to hear your news from America. I was in the USA one time (1985), but I hope to go in the future with my both kids.
Now I'm sitting in my office and have no much time.
Wish you and Rene all the best.
Take care.
Love and peace

Hi Mikey, yes the US is a great place. I wish you all the very best for the House of Blues gig. You will go down really well. Shame that you could not have been at the Joes Pub gig. Hope that Rene is enjoying her time out there with you. Are you going out again to do more ITAs? Pouring with rain here at the moment. Well good luck and a safe trip home. Mark

Hi Mikey
I left some messages for my friends over at the Museum of Science and Industry(MSI). If you have the time, go see the frogs, I do hear it's pretty cool. Tip: Afternoons at Museums are less crowded, all the school groups have gone by then.
Great seeing you and playing LIVE last night. Thanks for being there.

Hey Mikey!
Aw so good to hear that you are loving the US tour.
It was fantastic to see you ITA. I couldn't get a good feed for the V festival- hope I get to see it soon.

Please tell me that you will be at Rachel's Barnes and Noble gig in LA.
There's a group of us meeting up (including Molly). My little girl is coming - she's a huge ITA fan - she's SOOO excited. Rachel inspired her to play piano and OMG you should hear her Mikey. She has such a knack/ear for it and she loves it. She wakes up in the morning and immediately hits the keyboard. She memorized Ode to Joy in no time - and she loves playing it in different instrument sound - she found the harpsichord and the sitar even and it sounded so cool.
It's funny, when she was reading the music for Ode to Joy,she came across a note and she said,"well, I don't like how that sounds, I think (another note) sounds better!"
She puts on the rhythm/drum machine on the keyboard and improvises all the time.
I hate to brag, but well I guess I am.
I am not a pushy mom when it comes to lessons or anything really - i put off lessons for her for a long time actually. I think that was a wise decision.

We can't wait to meet you and Rachel and it would be cool to meet Rene as well.

Enjoy your stay here and please make some Man about Town videos with Justin..pretty please? It would be so cool to see my country through "fresh, curious eyes."

Take care and be well,
Love,
Sue

Hi Mikey,
You'll already be home by the time you read this. I hope you had a fantastic time doing ITA in America and that you'll be back for the second leg. ITA from Toronto would be very cool, don't you think?

I hope you had a great trip, and we're all looking forward to reading more of your stories from the road.

Hi Mikey - A belated welcome to you and Rene. Sorry to have missed you at Joe's pub, so many of us were looking forward to seeing you and Simon there. Glad you made it for a few ITA shows and toured a bit of our country.

This morning my son brought in the mail excitedly as he does when there is a package involved! It was your new CD Invisible! We put it on right away and absoultly love it! Beautiful work you've done there. Invisible brought a little tear in a sweet way. White Stripes and Misery are other favs. Looking forward to hearing much more of your music.

Hey! great wrap up of your trip Mikey. You must be home by now. Hope you get to see more of America, like, Orange County, California some day. I have this vision of you and me vespa'ing up PCH on a sunny day admiring all the oil wells.

So, give us an update on new songs, if you have any plans to record again soon. Ever thought about collaborating on songs with Layla Astley?

Mikey,
You were right on, about the Polar Bears in the central park zoo. Actually, you were lucky they were sleeping. It is so sad to watch them, while they are awake. They pace back and forth; it makes me think of someone who is mad, and in an insane asylum.
Sorry to be so glum, but I had to comment on that.
I wish the world, would follow Steve Irwin's example, and have only "cageless" zoos......ah, there is a lot to wish for, in this world.

Anyway, I hope you and Rene, enjoyed your stay in the USA....it's sounds like you did!

I love the cd, and play it regularly...I look forward to more music, from your direction!

Take care and best wishes to you!

ok your comment just made my heart break a little, lryicsgrl. although...it's sad, but true. zoos do keep animals safe, but on the other hand, they so rarely give the animals what they need: space. - it's sad to see, and that's why i hate going to zoos. :o(

Hey I'm finally watching that episode!
I've been catching up all this time the past couple of days.
I wanted to say that your voice sounded awesome that night! Not that it doesn't always sound, you know what I mean. lol
You were on that night, that's all I'm saying. And Plasticine was sooo heartfelt, really lovely. :)
