BRIDGEPORT AND NYC, JOE'S PUB...

Leaving Hershey, and I've come down with the same cold as most of the crew, it probably didn't help that I was feeling emotionally low due to missing my Rene, and spending the last month on the road, but anyway, it hit me hard. My throat felt terrible, and all I could think about was how I would perform at the Joe's pub gig.
We arrived at the bridgeport gig, which seemed to be situated next to a power station and a railway line, I felt awful. It was cold and rain fell in a fine mist, I went inside to watch the Who for a short time, and they were outstanding, the venue was huge and completely full, it was an amazing crowd, I wish I had felt better.
From Bridgeport, our bus took on some new members as well as equipment for the gig, and we drove into New York city, we stayed at the same hotel that I had stayed with Rene, back when I joined the tour just after the previous gig at Joe's pub. It was nice to be in a familiar place for once. I jumped in bed, but had trouble sleeping, and felt worse than ever. The next day, was a day off, and much appreciated too, I ventured out of my room and visited a diner that I had been before with Rene, it made me feel better, I also found a pharmacy and bought some medicine, which helped me further. I spent the rest of the day lying in my room, only leaving to get some more food from a deli.
The next day, I got to Joe's pub for the sound check, and met Shaun Lennon, Jimmy Fallon, Martha and Rachel, it was good to see Rachel, but I felt bad that I wasn't very up-beat during my introductions. I sat in the green room concentrating on making myself well, and after Pete arrived, the sound check started, I was the last to check, and was suprised how well it went. It was really good to meet loads of bloggers outside the venue as I smoked, you know who you are, and thankyou for all your kind words.
Pete and Rachel were really kind to me, and made me feel much better, I was nervous and feeling rough, but it was nice to see Roger come backstage and say hello to me. David Bowie came backstage, but stayed the other side of the room chatting to Pete, Rachel and Shaun.
My time came soon enough, and I was up on stage, I started with Misery, and then played Plasticine, it all went well and the time flew by, I sat at a table and watched the other acts, who were all brilliant. Then back on stage for the finale of I'm One, the show was a complete success and I enjoyed every second. I felt much better, and went to the meet and greet and spoke to loads of people, had loads of photo's taken, but had to leave quite quickly, as I was travelling back to the hotel with the crew on the bus. It was a great night, and I feel very lucky and privelidged to play there, in such great company.
All my thanks go to Rachel, Pete and all the crew that made everything work so brilliantly, there is so much work put into these show's, alot of time and effort. Thankyou everyone that attended, it was my pleasure to play.
Then back to the hotel, and an early night, then off on the bus the next ...
Thankyou to everyone giving me a shout on this blog, I really appreciate all the support you all give me. I still am missing my Rene very much, more everyday, but soon I'll be back home for Christmas, and I can't wait.
Please give me a shout, it helps...

Sorry to hear about the cold, but based on the reviews everything went over well.

Just wanted to thank you again for helping out our maligned band back in September.

I hope your CD outsells the Blount fellows' by a google.

Mikey!

Sarah Beth introduced us after the last Attic Jam. I'm hoping you were sober enough to remember me.. LOL

I remember you saying you didn't feel too well.. are you any better? Even with the crappy weather here on the east coast? As we die in an apocolyptal snowstorm following the 72 degree heat on December 1st?

Anyways, I'm glad I met you (especially with our impending global-warming-induced death), talk to you soon I hope.

Gosh Mikey, I didn't even realize you weren't feeling well at Joe's Pub. Your performance was beautiful. You are getting better and better with each show. Maybe it's the emotion of missing Rene so much that's coming through. Hang in there, the days are passing quickly and you've come very far. Your songs have become a part of my life. I feel very fortunate to have gotten to speak with you at the meet & greet. You're a gentleman. I'll be seeing you soon at the Attic Jam in Chicago.
All the best,
Cynthia

Dear Mikey,

I'm really feeling for you. Being sick on the road, and without Rene, must've been horribly hard, but you were a trooper (or, as my grampa would say, a "brave buffalo"--I have no idea why a buffalo would need to be brave, but you were!) to do the Joe's Pub gig and apparently do it so well.

In another week you will be here in Minneapolis, and Jessica and I (and Elaine, I bet!) will give you smiles and hugs and welcome you to our chilly city. Then across town to St. Paul and the Who gig there. It's exciting, and I'm in such a busy whirl here that it will be a special treat to have that night off from studying and working.

I feel for you and Rene. Hopefully the weeks will fly by now and you will be home. What a great Christmas you'll have.

Anyway, that's my pep talk for tonight, and big hugs and smiles.

Love,
Brina

P.S. I went to be with my boyfriend at Thanksgiving, had a wonderful week, and I tell you, the time right afterwards, when we were apart and trying to have this long-distance romance again? It was agony. So I really do feel what you are going through. Love at a distance. Aargh!

P.S. Mikey, will you be selling copies of your CD at Rachel's Barnes and Noble appearance or the Who gig here in Minnesota? Some of us would love to buy copies then (haven't been able to make it work online, for some reason). Just wondering....

Mikey,

Sully here...I had no idea you were under the weather when we met backstage. You were so pleasant to hear and to chat with! If I was feeling lousy, I'd been a grump.

Anyway, I hope to chat with you soon...email me at rockjf@aol.com about some of the things we were talking about. I think 2007 could be an exciting year for you...if you're game!

From all reports, you were brilliant at Joe's Pub, cold or no. I am so glad ... not surprised, just happy for you. Take care of yourself in our American winter, and it's just a matter of days until you head back home. So try to enjoy every moment. Real life will return soon enough!

Mikey,
I hope when things slow down some that you will be able to blog all this like your Indonesian trip. I really feel the Indonesian blog is really a book. I don't know if you have documented this tour as well as the Indo trip however. Funny how everyone suggest things to you that equal a bunch of work. Take care and take it easy mate.

Hi Mikey-
Oh I'm so sorry you are not feeling well...I guess a bunch of Who crew folk aren't well too. That's no fun.
I hope you and the crew feel better soon!
Tons of vitamin C, OJ, water, rest. That's it!
The other Sue told me you were amazing at Joe's.
I'm so happy your gig went well.

I meant to invite you to my Taiwan Festival Mikey! hee hee.
Pete just smiled BIG smiles when I told him about my idea (did I tell you this already??).
Then he asked if I had spoken to Rachel, which I had and he said that well, he follows her wherever she goes!
It's going to happen - I can feel it.
The other Sue is going to help me out (maybe a few other talented bloggers as well). I have a wide array of friends who are keen to help me...so we will see!
I can do it, I know I can.
SO many artists are interested - it's just the old money factor, but again, I have my ways, and some excellent connections so I will put it all together.
Ok I am rambling here.

You're in MY hometown now!
Yup - I was born in Boston!
I don't miss it anymore though...I used to.
I am very California now.
Ok I miss it a little... the people are genuine (they can be a little cranky though!).
Beautiful scenery - the seasons...Legal Seafood...if you like fish go to Legal Seafood!
EXCELLENT used record and book shops to (although it's "not a college town" as they said in Spinal Tap...har har).

Ok I better go clean my house now... I have to clean leaves out of my gutters too.
Oh joy oh rapture.

BYE!
Sending healing vibes your way!
Love,
Suesxx

Hello Mikey,

Glad you found a few familiar places, especially when you were feeling unwell. It's been a long haul and I have actually worried for "everyone" a little--at the amount of work, and the less rest, and yikes...colds and blah.

But you were great as ever at Joe's (I wasn't there, not in NY). But how else would you be? Impossible that "Misery" and "Plasticine" (which rhyme!) would not come out on top (no matter what!)!!

And the holidays will be here with you with your Rene. Very soon, a break at home.

Now THAT was a great blog post you did. So sad you felt ill.

I told you while outside the Hollywood club (Hotel Cafe) that I speak much better in person than on the internet...but don't most folks?

You say you'll be home for Christmas, and Rene...great to hear you can do that, great to hear the anticipation, though painful it is. I know, believe me, though never been a whole ocean away.

Peace,

Hi, Mikey!!!

:-)

I'm sorry to hear you were not well. Just think, you will soon be snuggled up at home, enjoying the peace of it all. It will feel *that* much better because you had to suffer a little beforehand.

What a sweetheart you are to make the effort to meet your blogger fans even when you felt awful. Same goes for performing. Bravo to you. Trust me, none of us whom you're meeting on the road will forget your kindness and energy. You make a real impact. Hope we all do that for you, too.

Big hug to you!

And btw, perhaps the time away from Rene and the pain of it all will inspire you to write another amazing song when you're home?

"...until I see my darlin' again..." sounds like a lyric to me.

Much Love,

So sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well Mikey. Just try and imagine the big welcome home you'll get from Rene. Cos I know she misses you like crazy too.
I like how you always call her "my Rene" and how that could be turned into one word. A combination of both your names. Myrene.
I think up some pretty goofy stuff sometimes. :-)
