BASEMENT JAM. HERE IS THE LINK.

I have posted a link on this blog, and hope that loads of you will come and watch ' Basement Jam' on Sunday 4th December 2005, it's completely free and bandwidth has been increased to supply demand. View on WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER only.

It's going to be a great night, loads of bloggers are coming to the venue, and there will be performances by Rachel and her band, Pete, Foy Vance, Simon Townshend and me, I'm really looking forward to it. I hope you can all watch, and enjoy the spectacle.

To watch the show you will need to click here to view.

I'm having a relaxing week, I've been running through a few songs, mostly 'Matches' and 'You', but I think that I will definitely play 'Plasticine'. I don't quite know how many songs I'll play, but I know that it is going to be a fantastic night.

Well done to everyone who has already secured a 'live' seat in the venue, but if you couldn't get a flight, just watch on your computer at home. Have a great time everyone. GMAS.

Dear Mikey

I am so envious of all of you who will be there to see you live!
Envious in a good way...
It is going to be so much fun for everyone.

I hope hope hope that I'll be able to find a computer to watch it on. I might just have to get creative in that department.

There is nothing I'd like better than curl up in my comfy chair by the fire & watch & listen to you play!
Alas, my dial-up is too slow.
Someday...

Have a good evening.
All my best to Rene, too.

Hey Dale, sorry to hear about your dial up problems, it would be great if you could watch, but don't worry, I'm sure that there will be a recording made of the event. Thanks for posting here, I hope you find a way, thanks Dale.

Hi Kevin, thanks mate, hope you get a good feed throughout.
About a boat, my Dad used to have one, he called it 'flipper'. I've never really wanted one, although I used to have a one man canoe, that was real fun, especially when your in the waves.
Hey the pier is the longest pleasure pier in the world, at one and one third miles long, and that's how far the tide goes in and out each day. Thanks for commenting, I'm really glad you can watch mate, shame I can't meet ya. Keep on truckin'.

Can't wait to see all you guys play live Mikey! I so wish I could attend but seeing it live on the net is indeed the next best thing. I also wanted to add I really enjoyed your videos on the show. Take care, break a leg ( you know there's a useless fact story behind that saying but it escapes me at the moment) Best of luck, Sandman

Hi Mikey,
I'm sure you wouldn't know about this, but my fellow american bloggers would. There was a show on the 60's & 70s called Romper Room, it was for kids, the Hostess would hold up a "magic mirror" and pretend to see into the Tv to the kids at home, she would go around & say "I see Susan, hello susan," etc. It was such a kick, kids thought she was talking to them directly. So my big, mature, idea was you can kinda do "shout outs" to all the unfortunate bloggers who couldn't make it. Ala Romper Room. Or just wink at the camera, & I'll think you are winking to me haha.
Give a special hug to Debby C for me when you see her.
and Gary too.
I cannot wait for show. I look forward to the completion of "Matches" & to hearing" Plasticine" again.'

Mikey,

Tom and I were actually on the list of the lucky few to attend this, but work commitments and the 6000 miles that separate us is going to prevent us from making it to the gig, unfortunately. I wish you and the other Atticers lot's of luck with the event, and we will be glued to the old computer during the live webcast, so we will be there with you in spirit. Hopefully this will be the first of many Attic gigs and that we will be able to see you in the flesh soon sometime in the New Year.

Best of luck, and break a leg!

Glad you put that up Mikey, all this cookies and chips business, get hungry, the mega hurts stuff I leave that alone, giga hurts must be even more painful.
My speed is 600 cups of espresso apparently.
I did have plasticine in me pocket once then my mum washed my jeans and oew it were an awful mess, soap powder was bubbling up out in the back yard. I kept my gob shut they had the drains up for a week, I hid under the bed. It's okay now, I live in Brazil, carry a shovel around with me, scared of houses now I am. I live with a bunch of wee monkeys, they're handy for de-fleaing.
A jolly good time to you and I vish u velly vel (lived 3 yrs in Sweden), good vibes to you and the others in the jam, see that's another one jam, cookies, chips, must have been an English bloke invented all of that, he was starving at the time

Yay Mikey, we jammed together! You might have been playing the lead I already had in my mind for that blues song, lol.I'm actually with my back to the kitchen because
I have my whole computer setup in the dining room.
I live in a little cottage by the ocean,2 blocks away, anyway.
I just put another original song up tonight.
I have a 70's tape recorder that eats tapes.I've never even heard my own songs before, from just listening like this. The webcam is helping me so much!
I'm going to buy a new guitar, too. The one I have that I was playing, it's crap. Joe Boy and Gary and myself have been checking into a new guitar for me, what's the best deals, etc.Because I know what I want, but I don't know that much about guitars. I have a certain dollar amount I'm willing to go but that's it.Anyway, this is a series of my songs,I've been getting the greatest encouragement from everyone. Thanks Mikey! And everyone else, too!

BTW, Mikey, I wanted to mention the pigeon song again. I really do think that is one of your stronger songs, even though it's not a love song, the music is great. The feeling of it is great, that's what I'm trying to say. I love that song! So please consider it for the basement, I want to hear Plasticine,of course. But I want to hear the pigeon song again, too. :)

The Pigeon Song rocks Mikey!! I love White Stripes and of course, Plasticine. Someday I'll audioblog my version...but I need the first few notes...I'll pay close attention on Sunday. That's such a feel good song! But it's funny how Rachel wrote the antithesis - "I'm only happy when I'm free" which is about NOT being molded by a lover...

I will be watching, in the jungle where I live (just kidding live in Holland)

glad u have a sense of humour Mikey
here's one for u

You Are Old, Father William

"You are old, father William," the young man said,
"And your hair has become very white:
And yet you incessantly stand on your head--
Do you think, at your age, it is right?"

"In my youth," father William replied to his son,
"I feared it might injure the brain:
But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,
Why, I do it again and again"

Hello Rachel

well, I stopped with meat and fish and eating anything with artifial colouring or flavouring and or preservatives in it when I was 16. It was hard because I couldn't cook. But, i really didn't want to take part in the whole industry which it is, with the cruelty to animals and all of the added stuff to those animals food to make them grow quickly. Food used to be satyurated with hormones before it was made illegal but still if you buy meat at some places it might not be what you think it is. As is the case of a companuy in Germany rooling chicken fillets in a centrifuge with a mixture of water and proteins, like proteins taken from cows, chickens or pork, so you get pork protein that way in chicken. The reason they did it, was to make the meat weigh heavier. When this was looked into this company found a way of messing with the DNA so that the protein would not be taceable.
I think you do well to consider stopping with eating meat.
If you are going to eat it eat organically farmed meat, it's more expensive, but you can eat less meat.
What you need if you stop eating meat are a certain amount of *wholefoods, so brown rice and proper whole bread, it doesn't mean you have to eat only that bread because like wholemeal bread isn't that nice witha fried egg (if u eat thiose for instance).
If you make brown rice then you need to make an Italian risotto, or a pilaf.
And very importantly you need to eat all kinds of split peas like lentils, green, red, black mung beans, red beans, black beans, aduki beans, white beans, big ones little ones, it is in the beans that you get wjhat you miss from meat, it is a mistake to eat loads of cheese and milk products or nuts as these are just fat and protein.
If we didn't eat milk products after weaning or drink milk we become lactose deficient, and get diarrhoea, because we are supposed to stop using these things when we can manage solid foods, the image of a healthy red cheeked farm girl on a packet of milk is quite a fallacy.
I use milk, I know it isn't really necessary or good because it is constituted by a cow's body for its young as every mother's milk is made for her young.
It is yet another addiction to know that it isn't good but not be able to stop using it.
I feel bad when I eat meat, even organic, it is only laziness that I eat it sometimes but I can say if you know how to cook and know what to use you definitely do not need meat, as saw in India hardly anyone ate it, and they were healthy people.
Poverty is a different story.
I am going to put up pages about nutrition, I have more than 30 years experience in nutritional things, so I will be putting up recipes and information about all of that.

Pilaf Rice with peas

Ingredients
250 gm basmati rice
85 grams oil or ghee (clarified butter),
1 & 1/2 teaspoon salt
15 gm fresh grated ginger
6 cloves (whole)
2 to 3 green chillies (optinional)
1 teaspoonsful garam masala
450 til 540 milliliters water (pint is 600 mls)
170 gm peas (fresh or frozen not tinned)
60 gm onions sliced
12 cloves of garlic
2 green cardomon pods whole
1 inch bit of cinnamon
1 teaspoon black cimin seed (kala zeera in Indian shops)

Garnish
fresh parsley or coriander leaves chopped fine
slices boiled egg
60 gram onion rings fried
slices tomato and cucumber
roasted cashew nuts or almonds

Wash then soak the ricehalf an hour in 450 mls water

Method
1/ In a pan large enough to cook the rice, heat the oil or ghee fry the onions and nuts which will be for the garnish, keep aside save the oil you used.
2/ Fry the chopped onions, garlic for last minute or two watching it as you go, to prevent it getting brown, add cardomons, cloves, cinnamon, fry a few mins, add drained rice, salt, red pepper powder, black cumin seeds, garam masala fry 5 mins, add heated water (450 mls), grated ginger, green chillies.
Cover bring to boil reduce heat as low as possible or use a heat dealer plate thing underneath, fold a clean tea clother double place it between the lid and the pan to stop steam escaping.

Vegetables
fry leek, carrots thinly sliced lengthways, kidney beans, some courgette, paprikas red, yellow, fresh green blanched beans, add fresh thyme and sald, if yyou reduce the heat low enough you will not have top add water, so slice the carrots thin because they take far longer than other vegetables.

You can eat a samosa with it.
Yoghurt with grated cucumber or carrot or banana in it to cool anything hot down.
And a dal sort

Dal
get cleaned orange slit lentils
wash them very well til the water gets a bit clear whilst rinsing.
1/ In a pan gently fry, a few fennel seeds, a few slices of garlic (not brown)
2/ Add the lentils about two handfuls for two people, and warmed water to cover but then a half inch above the lentils, not too much, the lentils will cook til they dissolve in about 20 minutes to make a thick sauce.
Fry 15 gms ginger, a clove of garlic sliced and then put the dal on top whilst it is hot from frying which will give a small sort of exlosion but that is the technique.
Add salf, lime or lemon juice a dash.
Eat pappadums, and a salde
Salad
1/ three sorts of lettuce middle of plate build upwards
2/ take red tomatoes slice a cross into the end where the stalk didn't come out of into the skin, take out the pit, dark bit, place a half a min in boiled water
put into ice water, take the skin off
3/ put a slice of tomato, a slice of cucumber round the edge of the plate, alternately.
4/ roast red paprikas (pepper) on an open gas flame tiil completely black run under tap take the skin off, dress this over the lettuce
5/ add advocado pear over the lettuce

Dressing
Raspberry vinegar
sunflower of peanut oil
salt pepper a small small onion
dressings are most ly 3 to 1 so three amounts of oil to 1 amount of vinegar, mix til emulsion.
add at very last moment before serving

bon appetit

Terry
